We're proud to share that Vineet Rai, Senior Manager at Jarvis, has earned the Databricks Partner Champion designation.
The Partner Champion program recognizes practitioners who have moved past technical proficiency into genuine platform leadership. It looks for people who influence how Databricks is adopted across organizations, contribute to the wider community, and shape the standards their peers work to. Reaching that bar takes years of enterprise delivery experience and a track record of measurable business outcomes.
We sat down with Vineet to understand what the journey involved, and what it means for the clients we work with.
Contributing beyond delivery
Vineet had already spent years building data platforms on Databricks across multiple enterprise clients before he decided to pursue the designation. For him, the program was a way to extend that experience into something broader.
"After working on data platforms based on Databricks across multiple enterprise clients, I saw an opportunity to contribute beyond project delivery. The Partner Champion program aligns with my goal of helping shape best practices, influence the Databricks community, and grow our Databricks capabilities at Jarvis. It's also a great platform to stay close to emerging Data and AI innovations and bring that value back to our clients."
That framing sets up what makes this milestone different from a typical designation story. Vineet was not simply adding a credential. He was positioning himself, and by extension Jarvis, closer to the center of the Databricks ecosystem.
What the bar measures
Ask Vineet about the hardest part of the process, and his answer reveals what Databricks is really evaluating.
"The most challenging part was demonstrating impact at scale rather than just technical expertise. I focused on highlighting outcomes from enterprise initiatives such as Data Mesh implementation, Unity Catalog adoption, and the development of our Databricks CoE. Those experiences showed how we were solving real business challenges and enabling broader organizational success."
Most Databricks designations test whether someone knows the platform. The Partner Champion designation tests whether they have used that knowledge to change how an organization actually operates, which is a much higher bar and one that far fewer people can clear.
A governance story with a twist
The project Vineet points to most often is a large-scale Unity Catalog rollout for a major Canadian Financial Institution, in a sector where regulatory scrutiny leaves little room for error.
"Seeing governance, data sharing, lineage, and access controls come together across multiple workspaces reinforced the value of the Lakehouse platform. It also demonstrated how strong governance can accelerate, rather than slow down, innovation."
That last point runs against a common assumption. Many organizations treat governance as a brake on innovation, something to be minimized so teams can move fast. Vineet's experience on this program suggests the opposite: get governance right early, and it becomes the foundation that lets teams experiment with confidence later. It is a perspective shaped by direct delivery experience, and precisely the kind of insight the Partner Champion program exists to recognize and circulate.
What clients gain from this
The designation is not just a personal achievement, it changes the advice Vineet is able to give clients day to day.
"The designation gives me greater access to Databricks product roadmaps, technical communities, and industry best practices. That allows me to be more proactive in advising clients and designing solutions that align with where the platform is heading, not just where it is today. I can also bring those insights back to strengthen our Databricks CoE and delivery standards."
For clients, this translates into architecture decisions grounded in where the platform is going, not only where it stands today. For Jarvis, it strengthens the Databricks Centre of Excellence, ensuring that insight gained on one engagement becomes standard practice across the wider team rather than staying with a single individual.
Building a bench, not a headline
Vineet is the fifth Databricks Champion at Jarvis, and his advice to colleagues considering the same path reflects why that number matters.
"I would strongly encourage them to go for it. The program gives you access to a network of experienced Champions, early insight into the Databricks roadmap, and opportunities to engage directly with product and engineering teams. Beyond the recognition, it's rewarding because it helps you grow as a technical leader, expand your professional network, and bring greater value back to both our clients and the Jarvis Databricks practice."
Five Champions is not a coincidence. It reflects a practice that invests deliberately in depth, and it means clients are drawing on a team with direct lines into Databricks product and engineering rather than a single point of expertise.
